Lisa Marie Basile | Freelance Health Journalist
When I’m not writing books or editing a literary journal, I work as a health journalist focused on chronic illness, a field I entered through my own lived experience.
I have over 10+ years of experience creating content and covering health conferences for general audiences, patient populations, wellness brands, and healthcare professionals. I love translating clinical research and complex medical jargon into clear, compelling articles. My work is rooted in evidence, empathy, inclusion, and accessibility.
I've written for The New York Times, Medscape, SELF, MDLinx, CNN, Psyche Magazine, BioNews, Medical News Today, Apartment Therapy, Sleep Foundation, HealthCentral, Healthline, EndocrineWeb, and GoodRx.
In addition to reporting, I’ve edited essays for Hearst Digital Media and served as senior editor and community manager at The Vitamin Shoppe. I’ve also led a content team at Vivial.
I spent five years working with Health Union as both a writer and community moderator, creating content centered on patient experience while supporting engagement across digital platforms. I also served for two years on the Health Union Leadership Council, helping guide community-focused, inclusive initiatives. I was a finalist in the Health Union Social Health Awards in two categories—Creative Contributor and Revolutionary Researcher—and completed the Patient Leader Program, developed in collaboration with the Society of Participatory Medicine.
I hold a BA in English from Pace University and an MFA in Creative Writing from The New School; voice and storytelling are always central to my work.
